Committed to stimulating a reading culture in various parts of the Sultanate; Eshraqa, the social development arm of Khimji Ramdas lent support to the 1st Book Fair organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in Sohar, Al Batinah North Governorate.
Inaugurated under the auspices of HE Dr. Humoud bin Khalfan Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, the exhibition opened its doors to the public from 24 October till 2 November at the Al Batinah North’s Book Fair – Sohar. The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of HE Shaikh Hamad bin Hilal Al Amri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture for Cultural Affairs.
Commenting on Eshraqa’s participation and support, Nailesh Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas said “Since its inception, Eshraqa has been committed to support educational initiatives that aim to promote reading and encourage people to acquire general knowledge. Our support for the 1st Book Fair in Al Batinah North Region, Sohar comes as part of this commitment and in line with our belief that the private sector has a responsibility toward the development of local communities and enabling various individuals in the Sultanate.” He added “We heartily congratulate the Ministry of Heritage and Culture for the success achieved in the first edition of the fair, and wish them all the best for future endeavors.”
The Exhibition, through the participation of 38 libraries, government entities and other exhibitors, showcased more than 3000 titles. As one of the main sponsors, Eshraqa distributed story telling books and children notebook stickers for the young visitors.
Thanking Eshraqa for its support, HE Shaikh Hamad bin Hilal Al Amri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture for Cultural Affairs, said “The fair aims to empower every individual within our community to gain access to books thereby enriching their knowledge. We are extremely pleased with the success of this first edition realized due to the rich selection of innovative content and outstanding masterpieces. Special thanks to the efforts of Directorate of Heritage and Culture in Al Batinah North Governorate.” He added “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Khimji Ramdas’ Eshraqa for its continual support and efforts towards promoting education and culture while encouraging people throughout the Sultanate to read. The 1st Book Fair for Al Batinah North Region in Sohar included poetry sessions, traditional arts, theatrical plays, lectures and debates on numerous topics, in addition to storytelling, awareness campaign, training sessions, competitions, and activities dedicated for children.
