Roca One Day Design Challenge comes to Oman after past years’ success in participation

  • The International Design Competition promoted by Roca is already present in 13 cities all around the world this year

Muscat, November 2019 – The third edition of the Roca One Day Design Challenge in association with Khimji Ramdas group in Oman will take place at KR Infrastructure Group Ghala Campus on Saturday, 2nd November 2019 in Muscat. The competition is one of the most thrilling ones in the design sector due to its time-trial nature. With presence in 13 cities, Roca One Day Design Challenge aims to promote and give visibility to young talent. It also intends to become a platform where young designers and architects from all around the world can have a first approach to the professional world and can meet renowned members of the jury.

Roca One Day Design Challenge is driven by Roca, a global reference in bathroom products, challenging design and architecture students and young professionals under the age of 30 to create original solutions and innovative products related to the bathroom space, in just one day.

The contestants will have to design a product based on a briefing that will be communicated early in the morning. The participants will need to work against the clock individually or in groups of up to two people. The most important aspects the jury will take into account are the originality, design and usability of the conceived proposals. The contest offers young students and professionals the experience of challenging themselves to produce and develop their most innovative ideas.

Registrations and members of the jury

The registration period prior to the competition is open on the website until October 30th.

The specific briefing of the concept to be designed will be communicated to all participants on 2nd November at 9:30 am. From then on, and against the clock, participants can work on their proposals until 5:00 pm. Once the projects have been submitted and the jury has deliberated, an award ceremony will be held from 7:30 pm onwards.

The jury of this third edition of the Roca One Day Design Challenge in Oman is made up of renowned professionals from the design and architecture sectors, such as Abdul Fattah Joudi, chief executive officer of Lines & Visions, associate and founder of the company in 2000; Jumana Habib leads Ibrahim Jaidah Architects & Engineers (IJAE) Office in Muscat, a subsidiary of Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB); Shehla Hussain (Assoc. AIA) with an experience of 10 years spanning Architecture, Urban Planning and Design Research; Omar Nuri, SSH General Manager; Victor Schoone Country Manager Middle East at Roca Sanitario, S.A.

Monetary awards and international expansion

The first prize winner at the Roca One Day Design Challenge in Oman will receive 600 OMR, the second 400 OMR and the third 200 OMR. In addition, the jury may award an additional prize of 200 OMR from the We Are Water Foundation to the project with a special focus on sustainability.

The competition has a strong international nature. Born in Spain in 2012, Roca One Day Design Challenge is in full expansion and this year 2019 is held in 13 cities in 12 countries all around the world: Argentina, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Poland, Bulgaria, Portugal, Russia, Oman, China United Arab Emirates, and Spain (Madrid and Barcelona).

As a novelty this year, the winners of the first prize of all editions in every country will be invited to participate in a grand finale that will take place in Barcelona from the 20th to the 22nd January 2020.
